Please read about the herbicide clopyralid compost contamination problem. Due to the persistance of this chemical, it is likely to be turning up in compost, regardless of the source. It could be in ANY material that came from an agricultural field sprayed with the contaminant. If it is mint fields, then certainly the mint compost could be affected. If the compost material came from wheat fields, it could be in animal bedding, animal manure, or animal grains. They are even finding it in leaf-only compost piles at the city of Portland leaf yards.

Mulches and Amendments
Leaves: The City of Eugene will deliver leaves at your request
during the months of November and
December. Delivered in large quantities (7 cubic yards) to your driveway.

High St.
Straw: Feed stores and garden supply stores are a good source,
or look in the classified ads under "Hay,
Grain, Feed" for farmers selling straw. All straw bales contain some
seed. Look for oat straw and wheat
straw. Oat and wheat straw bales usually contain fewer seeds and if
they do sprout they are easier to hand
pull than seed sprouting from rye or fescue straw bales.

Mint Straw Mulch: Barncraft Building Supply in Junction City

available with 3 yard min. purchase. $25 delivery to Eugene. Five yard

for availability. Mint straw has the highest nitrogen content of all
the mulches.
